Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Spatial Development

 

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering of ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position at the Institute for Spatial and Landscape Development.

 

The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong and visible research programme in the area of sustainable spatial development with a focus on new approaches based on economic and/or social theories. Ideally, the candidate is able to integrate in-depth disciplinary knowledge into the broader context of spatial development. Relevant research areas include, but are not limited to integrated spatial, transportation and economic development, and the development of innovative methods and instruments for an integrated spatial analysis and planning across scales above and below ground level.

 

The successful candidate holds a PhD and has an excellent record of accomplishments in spatial planning, engineering, or in a spatial development related discipline. Knowledge of the Swiss federal system with 26 cantons and over 2000 communities is an advantage. He or she is expected to establish an attractive teaching programme and must be committed to excellence in education, as well as promote, execute and apply modern teaching methods. Teaching duties include the contribution to graduate level courses in the MSc "Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems" (English) and in the long term also to undergraduate courses in the BSc "Geospatial Engineering" (German). After successful completion of the tenure procedure, the professorship will also be responsible for the MAS/DAS/CAS programmes in spatial planning.

 

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scien­tists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to other top international universities.
