The Urban Studies Institute at Georgia State University is seeking two assistant professors, to begin in August of 2019. Application review beginning December 10, 2018, open until filled.

 

Assistant professor with expertise in sustainable urban systems

USI is seeking an exceptional early-career scholar committed to transdisciplinary research on the systematic ecological sustainability of urbanization and urban governance, with particular emphasis on the theme of environmental urbanism. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in sustainability sciences and resilience; have an affinity with comparative urban studies, and have a research agenda with strong external funding potential. This position aligns with the Institute’s mission to connect interdisciplinary perspectives, develop an innovative and specialized interdisciplinary curriculum, and engage stakeholders in metropolitan Atlanta, nationally, and abroad.

 

Assistant professor with expertise in urban politics and governance

USI is seeking an outstanding urban scholar with expertise in urban politics and governance, and a specialty in social justice, diversity (regarding gender, race, ethnicity, and/or sexuality), and/or the portability of urban policy and theory. This position closely aligns with the Urban Studies Institute’s commitment to inclusive urban development. The successful candidate will advance the Institute’s international reputation in this area by contributing theoretical and empirical innovations to the field, and pursuing an agenda-setting research program with strong external funding potential. Specific research foci include (but are not limited to):

-urban inequalities and uneven spatial development

-social difference and urban transformation

-urban social movements

-urban policy mobilities

-urban political economy and economic development

-urban informality

-(sub)urban development , governance, and lived experiences
