WALKING THE CITY WITH…
“Walking the city with…” is a podcast miniseries produced by Urban Studies with the editors and authors from the journal. The series takes you into an immersive experience not only hearing from some of the key voices in urban research today in a relaxed and non-jargony fashion, but also walking with them through the streets of the cities they research. Unpacking the idea that, at a time of crises, inequalities and clashes, we need a more global urban studies, the miniseries offers insights into how this ‘global urban’ works in practice through the eyes, and words, of innovative urban studies scholars. We travel with them, physically and imaginatively, to sites of inquiry and personal memories of place, in a sequence of conversations on what global urban studies mean today. The miniseries couples explorations of key ideas in urban studies, with narratives of particular places that have shaped them, but also a personal account of what an urban studies scholar is in these researchers’ own introspective accounts. The miniseries also does something untested in the world of urban academic podcasting: the episodes are peer reviewed and revised through the journal’s normal process, and mix author insights and interviews with reflection across the broader miniseries theme of walking with global urban studies – a properly peer-reviewed treat! Mixing theory, fun anecdotes and situations, with a dose of serious reflection and a sprinkling of live ambient sounds, we take you on the streets of the cities of urban studies. We ask you to get your headphones in and your feet in these brilliant voices’ shoes, and come for a stroll with us.
